Session Description
If you picked up a copy of today's New York Times and read it through, you would have accessed as much information as a person living in the 16th century would have assimilated in their lifetime! You would probably also be feeling rather depressed! Negative, depressing events are nothing new – there have always been, and always will be, bad things happening in the world. You'd probably agree that living in 2006 is preferable to living in 1503, though at least back then you wouldn't know about every bad happening everywhere. And of course today we learn about it as it's happening in many cases – talk about depressing!
In "What to Say When You Talk to Yourself", Dr. Shad Hemstetter tells us we were told "no", or what we could not do, 148,000 times before age 18. Couple that with our instantaneous access to all the negative happenings in the world, it's no wonder that leading behavioral researchers say that as much as 77% of our thoughts is negative and counter-productive. Here's the good news – Dr. William James, the founder of modern psychology, stated way back in 1900, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings may alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind." And that's what "I'M POSITIVE. (I THINK!)"© is all about.
