A Dickens Christmas

Roy Lantz as Charles Dickens “It was not a mere reading of the tale. To a certain modified extent, all the characters in the story were acted; and in voice and gesture their peculiarities were admirably represented and sustained throughout.”
The Sheffield Times, Sheffield, England, December 29, 1855

From this critique of one of the early readings of his immortal, A Christmas Carol, until the final reading on March 15, 1870, Charles Dickens mesmerized audiences with his tale of hope and inspiration. The normally dour Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle, said, “…but I pretty soon found out that 'reading' was a very insufficient description of the thing provided for us. The man's face and voice were made into a kind of stage, and he called his people upon it so that we might see them act their parts.”

In his portrayal of Charles Dickens “reading” of A Christmas Carol, Roy brings to life the beloved characters Dickens introduced to the world in December of 1843. (One of the over 170 different editions of A Christmas Carol in Roy's personal collection is from 1844).

This “reading performance” is the perfect presentation for not only the Christmas Season, but at anytime throughout the year that an entertaining, inspirational, not-soon-forgotten program is called for. Roy's portrayal of Charles Dickens is also an ideal complement to Seasonal Open Houses and large Holiday gatherings, with vignettes from A Christmas Carol being mixed with Charles Dickens meeting, greeting and posing for photos with customers and guests.

From “Marley was dead: to begin with” to the unforgettable “And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God Bless Us, Every One!” A DICKENS CHRISTMAS will delight all who experience it. For more information, including booking, please contact us.
